When I was in high school, I tried to learn programming with my classmates. Due to the lack of experience and resources, it was very hard to adopt this new skill for me. I could spend several hours trying to figure out how it works and searching YouTube. It seemed impossible to understand the websites about coding because we didn't practice it in my school as well as it should be. Our teacher would just leave us to resolve the problem by ourselves and would never try to explain clearly. With the coding lesson that I learned this semester at ASU, I understood the way this program works. Now I feel like I never knew about coding before and my eyes opened today. I definitely think that learning at least the basics of coding is very important in modern society. This is a new era, where new technologies emerge very often. Children are growing up with knowledge that previous generations never knew before. Since the early ages, they learn how to operate computers, smartphones and tablets. It is not only necessary for children to learn how to do coding, it is extremely important in the twenty-first century. First of all, because in the nearest future we are going to have a tremendous amount of jobs that will require knowing how to use these programs. Secondly, it lets children use their time building games and not just waste it by playing someone else's game. I've recently watched a Code Stars video, where I had a chance to see a lot of adults and kids using computer programs. The biggest thing that impacted me from this video, was knowing how important it is in our society to push children to learn these programing codes. What's interesting to me is that right now lots of parents are being ignorant towards their children. They don't understand their child who is really passionate about computers. Adults tend to punish their children for "wasting their time". What do I see? Opportunities! Opportunities that can be brought to your child. In the video mentioned above, it clearly said that in just several years, a quarter of jobs in great companies will be in programming. Why lose an opportunity for your child if he or she likes it?
From my point of view, knowing how to operate computers nowadays is having superpowers. You can do anything with this type of technology. While a human is not able, for example, to count big numbers fast, computers can help you and do it for you. Using coding already helps a lot in our everyday life. Just open your phone and look how many apps you downloaded. They were created by someone using some of the programs I got a chance to test today. Every day I hear people using a weight/loss app, playing games, learning languages, getting a taxi. Its so incredible to know that we live in the century where we can experience that, isn't it?
